Giving evidenco before the Northern Fisheries Commission, the chairman of the Auckland City Council Mnrkots Committee said that during the committer's term of oflice tho cost of fish had increased considerably. Tlio total runninf? expenses had advanced from ,£OB to a week, and shop expense had increased by about .£•} a wcok. Witness produced the profit and loss accounts for thn period ended .Tune 30, 1918, which showed a loss of ,£1043 for«the twelvo months. Tho losses had gradually become less as tho committee acquired experience. The
committee was m favour of opening rotni! shops within tho city boundary.
