Mr. Samuel Turner, F.K.G.S., a wellknown mountaineer, on Thursday -made a successful attempt to reach tho summit of Mount Cook alone, the first success of an amateur. Ho tried on Tuesday, but only reached tho middle of tho Summit Books. This was Mr. Turner's fourteenth attempt to climb Mouut Cook alone.
