THE COAL DISPUTE

LITTLE LOCAL INFORMATION. Little information was available locally yesterday regarding the dismite in the coal industry. The Minister of Mines (the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald) stated that he had not received any confirmation of the published report that the men employed at the State Mine had decided to "go slow." He had heard that the miners intended to hold a meeting, but ho was not aware that the dispute at Blackball was the subject of their discussion. He had no information regarding the Blackball dispute, except that it was the subject of consideration by the Mineowners' Association and the Miners' Federation. Private information received in Wellington yesterday was .to the effect that all the mines were, working. No mention was ma.de of any "go-slow" movement. It" is understood that negotiations between the parties are not ended, and tuat there is still some ground for hoping that a deadlock will be avoided. BALLOTS ON RESTRICTING THE OUTPUT. By Tdwapli-Press Association. Greymouth, March 10. Although the ballots held bv the'coal miners' unions over the Blackball dispute at the State, Blackball, and, Paparoa mines are understood to have favoured the restricting of the output bv a large majority, the decision to go slow was not put into operation to-day at any ot the mines. It is understood that the miners in the Buller district are taking a ballot to-day. It is not expected that a.' go slow" policy will be adopted at least until after the conference on the Blackball dispute at Wellington, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Mines on Wednesday, when the principal matter to be considered will be the question of the reinstatement of the Blackball Union's executive/ who were dismissed when the dispute arose. The delegates to the conference will leave here to-morrow,
