NOTES FROM VARIOUS CENTRES WAIRARAPA ITEMS Sir AVulter Buchanan, M.L.C., who is shortly leaving on 11 trip to tho Old Country, was tendered a complimentary social J>v the committee anil members of tin! Wairarapa and East Coast A. and I'. Association. Mr. Charles Reid (president), who occupied the chair, referred in laudatory terms to the splendid services rendered by Sir AA'alter 811cluntan to the association, to the AVairarana, and to New Zealand. Tlio speaker said it was tlio wish of all present that Sir AValter would liavo a pleasant trip and a safe return. A number of other speakers supplemented the remarks of Mr. Reid. Sir AValter Buchanan feelingly replied, lie appreciated very much the spirit which hail prompted the gathering, and/th/nked the various speakers for the sentiments expressed. ' Playing for ihe Grady Medals 011 the Mnsterton Bowling Club's green, Adamson and Harrison, Of Featlierston, beat H. Beale and Blinkhorno bv 20 points to 13. At the Eketahuna horticultural 6how the cun winners were as follow:—Toohill Ciin. Mrs. Wales; Neilson Cup, AV. Evans (07); M'Garry Cup, Mrs. E. L. Small (la); Cheese Challenge Shield, Hukanui and Newman, tie. Tlio AVairarapa Patriotic Association -is at nresont providing a special trained nurse to give the whole of her attention to a returned AVairarapa soldier who is at present an inmate of the Mastenton Hospital. This lad, whose home is in Martinboroujh, has a wound in the spine that is causing tho doctors anxiety. The following havo been selected to run in the interests of the Masterton Labour Party at the forthcoming municipal elections: —W. Candy, H. J. OUjeary, A. M'Leod, H. Brader, B. Chapman, S. Sinclair. Several Masterton exhibitors were successful at tho Eketahuna horticultural show. Airs. AA r . Wilton took six first prizes, threo seconds, and a third in cut flowers. Mrs. Studolph took three firsts, eight seconds, and five thirds in cut flowers. Mrs. Briden was awarded ivo firsts, ono 6econd. and one tLird for roses, together with the first r-rire for best roso in tho show. Mr. J. Allan took three firsts, two seconds, and oue third in cut flowers. Mrs. AV. Stuiolph secured first and second .in keeping onions. Private Ran?i Elera, son of Mr. C. T. Elers, of Masterton, who has bcc-n wounded four times 011 active service, is returning by the AVestmore'.aiul. - Lance-Corppral A. E. Allswonn, s<:n of Mrs, Allsworth, of Makora Road, Mnsterton, is returning to New Zealand this month by the transport Ajann, Mr. A. Rippon says that it is improbable that he will bo a candidate for tho Mayoralty of Masterton 011 the present occasion. It is understood (says tho "Age") that the Rev. ,T. A. Hosking, of Masterton, will not go to AVestport, for which p'.rco !i<> war. set down in tho first reading of starions at the Methodist Conference, hut will probably be appointed to a northern circuit. Dr. D. B. Maunsell Ins 'eft Masterton for Manaia, and Dr. N. H. Prior has resumed the practise of his profession in Masterton.
