MONEY MARKET. The Bank of England diEcount rato on January 12, 1917, was 51 per cent. On April 5 it waß reduced to 5 per cent., at which figure it has sinco stood. OPEN MARKET RATES. No figures cabled. Tho discount rate for three monthß bills was 3J per cent, last week, as compared with 4 per c«nt. the week before, and 85s. 3d.; landed, 80s. Short loans were Quoted at 3} per cent, last week as against 3J per cent, the week before, and 31 per cent, last year. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat.-O.uiet; a fair quantity. Australian parcels were sold at 84s. Sd. and 85b. 3d.; landed 80s. Flour.—None offering. Oats. Peas, and Beans.—Slow, and unchanged. Sugar.—Unchanged. Butter.— Unchanged. The present distribution included a considerable quantity of unmixed New Zealand butter. MINING NEWS WELLINGTON SHAKE MAKKET. The quotations on Saturday for mining: shares were as under;— Buyers. TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED.. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, March 8. During tha month of February the Talisman Consolidated, Ltd., crushed and treated 760 tons, yielding bullion valued at £6056 16s. Jd. The total espendituro was j £3839. I • MURRAY CREEK.

Thiß atone is n'bout 25 feet in length, and from 2 to 3 feet in width. The intermediate level from the south stones has been extended 16 feet, on a. reef 5 feet wido, and. is still continuing, showing that there is every prospect of the atone joins down to No. 4 level. The south stones are Bhowine faces from 4 to 6 feet wide. At this end of tho mine wo are working two lines of reef, divided by about 12 feet of mullock-. As the workings extend Jsouth those two reefH appear to be coming together. North end: The stono haß now been proved for a distance of 60 feet, vith Teef from 3 to 4 feet in width. Ho. 3 level: The north face is showing a reef- 7 feet in width. South from this a distanco of 1(X) feot the reef in tho stopes .has narrowe_d down to 2 foot. Labour is still scarce, and It is difficult to keep up tho-output and at tho Bame time develop tho mine. During the month tho battery crushed 1030 tons of quartz i for a gross return valued at £2057.
