SOLDIER PATIENTS
OFFER OF A'MILITARY ANNEXE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, March 6. A deputation from the Soldiers' Welfare Committee met the Acting-Prime lUiniater to-day, and offered to pay rent, taxes, etc., of a house to be used as a military annexe for soldier out-patients, "providing for cases where long journeys, etc., cause exhaustion. . They urged that the scheme would relieve congestion in the hospital, which rns partly caused by the fact that men vhq were really outpatients had to be kept in hospital because there was no handy accommodation outside. The deputation urged that such a house be controlled by the Defence Department. .Sir James Allen, replying, said' he recognised the desirability of treating men. as near as possible to their homee, which 'had been the-policy of the Department .from the beginning, but during the past few, months, 'owing; to the largo 'number coming, it had been, necessary to make accommodation at Trentham, which was being fitted ior 800 to K-00 men, with a speedy extension to 2200.
