ALLEGED BOGUS ENROLMENTS.
Questions about the enrolment of persons on tho municipal roll were asked at the meeting of the City Council last night. Councillor Wright said it was rumoured that bogus enrolments were being made, and he asked whether steps were taken to test the genuineness of applications being made. The Town Clpvk said that there was no means of making any such test. Tho law was that he had to accept any written application that, was in order. Councillor Wright: Has an elector a rieht in challenge names on the roll? The Town Clerk: Yes, certainly. There was no staff available, and there was no time for any such action to be taken. Something of the sort mieht he done in future if it wero thought desirable. Councillor M'Konzin said that the i real solution was that it should not be within the power of any organisation to put names on tho roll. Councillor Fitzgerald ridiculed the alarm of councillors, because the Labour people wore active while it anpeared that otlinr 'orfanifilions wero not. Councillor Thompson said that tho Minister of Defence, had said that soldiers would not bo disfranchised because of absence from New Zealand.
