CHAMPION RINKS. A start was made yesterday afternoon tn the Thorndon Club's green with the Wellington Centre's annual champion link., contest.. - The weathar conditions were perfect, and the green, played keen and true. Only one game was played, yiz„ Newtown v. Eastbourne,'and resulted in .a win for the Newtown irink. Eastbourne established a -slight lead in the earlierhalf of tho game, but in the latter : part Newtown "felt" the green a little' better and pulled gradually ahead. The < play on the wholo was good. The scores .were:— ■ Newtown: L. Warwick, Astill, Russell, Duff (5.), 20. Eastbourne; A. Munro, ' Marquis, 11. Mayor, Powell '10. Hataitai won by default 1 from Te Hiwi, who did -not send in a rinlc.
