STATEMENT IN THE HOUSE OP ' LORDS. London, February 27. In the House of Lords, Lord Curzon in replv to a question said lie did tot know whether the Amir's, assassination was due to religious, fanatical, or political reasons, or domestic intrigue. lie paid a tribute to the late Amirs loyalty to Britain, adding: "Apparently.lie will be succeeded by his brother, fcasiulla Ivhan, who immediately sent a message to tho Government of India couched in most friendly and loyal terms. A. suitable reply has been sent. There is no reason to suppose that there will be any interruption in tho friendly relations between Britain and Afghanistan,'whose independence we desire to maintain."—Renter.
