SWIMMING ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL CONFERENCE, By Telenrapli—Press Association. Christchurch, March 4. The annual conference of the New Zealand Swimming Association opened to-day. , Mr. W. E. D, Bishop was elected chairman. There are delegates prosent from all parts of the Dominion. The matter of Dannevirke ami . Woodvillo being included in the Hawke'a Bay boundary was held over pending the formation of a centro for the Manawntu district. A delegate moved that the resolution allotting the championship to Otago next year be rescinded, and that the championships be allotted to Auckland. An amendment was carried ' to give Otago two months in which to declare whether she is willing to carry out the championships. At a conference of centres m connection with the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, Mr. Sinimonds moved that the BSO yards event be de- | leted from the Dominion intermediate championship and 440 yards be substituted therefor. Mr. C. Atkinson, in seconding the motion, stated that he considered it injurious to the health of a growing youth to swim 880 ynrds. Tho motion was lost. It .was decided that the matter of issuing a learner's certificate to any boy swimming 50 yards instead of 100_ yards as at present bo a recommendation to the council.
