ST. PATRICK'S DAY
The St. Patrick's Day sports are to be held at Newfcown T?urk"on Monday, March 17, nitil ■'«.. highly-uttractive programme has been arranged. Now that anwteur athletics are making a fresh spurt as a result uf the return of our soldiers, the various events are expected to be well contested. Special events have been 6et aside for members of- amateur athletic (tlubs. The Highland daiieing- and' Jrjsh jig competitions are expected- to draw i)i«; entries, and the committee is hopeful of making 'this a special featuro of the day. To tho prize-winners will bo devoted some twenty-nine medals and' two rose bowls. The baby show, which is always a success, from the entry point of view, is to receive ■ increased prize money. Dr.-Plaits-Mills hnsbeon specially requested to judge this event.
The Marist Bros. Old Boys' Association will have charge of the side shows. A feature of the drill display will be that of 1000 -children' to represent tho form of a harp. < JJ.ev. Brother Eusebius is superintending the display.
The.grand national.<\oncert is.to tako place in the Town Hall in the evening. The artists .engaged are Sijjnoi , Cesnroni, Fnnjuhar Young, of Chnstehurch; Kevin Dillon, Herbert F. Wood, , Misses Violet Lnniacroft,'Teresa M'Enrop, and 'Anne Sullivan. The Marist" Bros.' School choirs will open each part of. tho concert, and a four-handed reel will »be danced, accompanied by a piper.
