... »—-— —". ■ MAYOR PROPOSES BIG "SOCIAL." ' The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) has tele- : graphed the Town Clerk (Mr. 'J. R. Palmer) that he proposes to offer the .Main Body men who are returning on the Hororata an official reception at the wharf, and to entertain them and their friends on the evening of. the landing at a "social" to be neld in the big Town Hall. To this function the Mayor proposes to invite all members of the Main Body, who may happen to be in Wellington. Another suggestion has been made to the effect that, as the steamer h,as to undergo 24 hours' quarantine in the harbour, a steamer should be secured and the men serenaded for an hour'or. sq during the evening by a band and party of entertainers; This, it is calculated, would relieve the tedium of the quarantine, ' and indicate to the men that the public 'is mindful of the fine work they have done in the cause of Empire.
