' .Nineteen Applications were received by tilt- Wairarapa Hospital im<l Charitable Aid board tor the position of matron to ■ lho. Masterton Hospital, a vacancy which was canned by the resignation of iliss Wilkinson. Six names were submitted for ballot,- and of the ten votes cast seven were recorded in favour of Miss M. M. M'lVnb, who was duly appointed, subject to the approval of the Supermtendcnt of Hospitals. The new matron was matron at the Wnitua Hospital, Keefton, for some, vears. She was at Burnhill Hospital, Glasgow, in the years 1900-09, and district nurse for three and a halt years in Argyllshire, tier qualifications are niedicai, surgical, midwifery, and she holds first-class diplomas in cookery and domestic, science. An old nnd respected settler of Masterton, in the person of Mr. James Colway, died on Saturday at the age of fifty-four years. , ' ■■ Tho Wairarapa South County Coui.eil has decided to ask the local bodies of the Wairarapa to appoint two delegates to a meeting-to be held in Carterton towards the end of March, to discuss the question of the formation of a hydroelectric power board and define the r.rea of the proposed district, under tho Electric Power Boards Bill. Messrs. J. C. Cooper and-C. E. Daniell, members of the Wairarapa Hydro-Electric Investigation Committee, are to be invited to be present at the meeting. The Wairarapa South County Council is strongly in sympathy with, the immediate proccduro of the local hydro-electric scheme, and consider, they should take the lead, in this matter,.as at the outset the_ largest users of powor would be within the 1 county.
