"DOMINION" PICNIC

In weather at a pleasant, temperature the annual wayzgoose of The Dominion staff was on Saturday held at Day's Bay. A strong northerly breeze blew all day, cooling the air, so that a..lively participation in the more strenuous amusements v.is general, adding greatly to the enjoy-' lnt-nt of the outing. Luncheon was served in the pavilion, and afterwards the party of about one hundred persons returned to the grounds to carry out a wellarranged sports programme, etc. _ The children who were in attendance in force derived much entertainment from races for themselves, and the good things in the form of fruit and sweets that were freely distributed. The energy of the committee secretary (Mr. P. B. Weldon) had a great deal to do with the successful working of tho plans. Mr. A. Sando, manager of Tiir. Dominion, who was present all day, also did much to make the dav a happy one for everybody. , A compliment was paid the gathering by tho unexpected arrival in the afternoon of the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, a director of the Wellington Publishing Company. Ho expressed pleasure at being able to be present, remarking that it was on such ocasions as these that the spirit of goo'd fellowship was fostered and the relations between them and the proprietary became more friendly. The visitor, who was introduced by Mr. Sando, was cordially received. The principal sports events and the winners of them were as follow:—., lOOy.ds Handicap-A. B. Clark, 1; E. Guy. 2.
