Sir Robert and Lady Stout returned to Wellington by tho Maori from the goutk yesterday. A Press Association message from London states that Sir Thomas Mackenzie, the New Zealand High Commissioner, has, undergone an operation, but is progressing satisfactorily.

Captain J. A. Carr, D.5.0., of the Roval Air Force, has been granted his discharge, and will return to Auckland. He was present at the surrender of the German Fleet, and went with the NewZealand Contingent that occupied Samoa.

A Press Association cable message from London states that Sir Oliver Lodge has resigned lVom the Birmingham University and will devote the remainder of his life to research concerning the ether.

Mr C. M. Luke, president of the Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. C. E. Daniell, chairman of the Wellington Harboutr Board, have gone south.

Mr. W. J. Munro, for many years in the Auckland Land Office, but latterly chief clerk at Taranaki, has been transferred to Napier, with the position of chief clerk, receiver of land revenue, and secretary to Hawke's Bay Land Board.

Mir Marshall Palmer, manager of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, passed through Wellington on Saturday. Mr. Palmer had a very severa attack of influenza in the south, and is only now beginning to regain his normal strength. The Jubilee Singers, are about to inaugurate a new tour of the North Island at Palmei'ston North.
