LOWER EUTT WINS CHAMPION PAIRS. 1 Tl\o final .ginie of the champion pairs was decided oil the Victoria Club's green under perfect weather and green conditions yesterday afternoon, victory resting with tho representatives of . the Lower Hutt Club, Msyrick, and Simpson. Tho scores wero as follow:— ■ • Lower Hutt: Mcyrick and Simpson 21; Lyall Bay. Ward and Tyroll (s.l, The play throughout vas of a high standard, and included some of the best heads of the season, and that on a keen green, coupled with the fact ■ that the Lyall Bay men wero by no means old hands at the game. The position Ward and Tyrell gained, chiefly through playing ft sound drawing g.-me, is an honourable one which redounds greatly to their credit. Lyall Bay snored a single oil the first head, but- tho next five heads saw Hutt pile on eight points, a big handicap ■that was reduced but''never wiped off. The tenth head, saw Lyall Bay only three points to the lead, but on the next Tyrell, lying three down, drove and carried tho jack back to a bunch of Hutt bowls, and finished up five down (14—6). With tills big hurdle, the Bay men played on steadily, but tho llutt pair were Just a little moro accurate in their weight anil green. Whon tho ewe on tho seventeenth head was 18—11 in favour of Hutt, Tyroll had a great chance of scoring a bunch by dragging 'the kitty back a toot or so. Ho drew the actual shot with one just in front of the jack, but could not just get tho white back. Tho single scored was of * little ii6e at that stage of tho game. On the rinetecnth head Lyall Bay scored another 6inglo, and the twentieth saw Tyrell again out. after a drag, "but Hutt lay two snug shots.when the head was played—2l—l2. Tho final head was not played. Simpson and Moyrick played invincibly. It is a long time since 6uch fine leading as that done by Meyrick has beon seen, and • Ward has ■ the consolation of knowing that he was ( beaten by an experienced player in great form. Simpson was also in great fettle. 'He built his heads witli brains, and drew throughout with commendable accuracy. Tyrell liardly played so well as he did on Thursday, completely misjudging tho green on several occasions. THE CHAMPION RINKS. .
