ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATIONS
The Wellington City Council has granted the use or Newtown. Park to the St. Patrick's Day Sports Committee for Monday, March 17. Sports are to be held during the day, and a highly attractive programme' has been arranged. Special events have been set aside ;for members of amateur athletic clubs. The Highland dancing and Irish jig competitions are expeoted to draw big entries, and the committee is (hopeful of making this a apecial feature, of the day.; To the prizewinners will be devoted some 29 medals and two rose bowls. The baby show, which is always a success, from the entry point of view, is to receive increased prize money. The'Marist Bros. Old Boys' Association will have charge of the sideshows. A feature of the drill displaywill be that of 1000 children to present the form of a harp! The Kev. Brother liusebius is superintending the display, and Mr. A. is coaching the children. As usual the grand national, conceit is to take-place in the Town Hall in the evening. The artists engaged are: Signor Cesaroni, Messrs. Farquhar Young (of Christchurch), Kevin Dillon, A. Wood, Misses Violet Lamacroft, Teresa M'Enroe, .and Annie Sullivan. The Marist Bros." schools' choirs will open each part of the concert, ' and a, four-handed reel will be danced. • /

A garden party in aid of the Petone and Lower Hutt Phnket Society will be held in Mrs. Scalea's gTounds, Hutt Ifoad, this afternoon. Given a fine day a large attendance is expected to eupoort a most deserving cause.
