' • .■ New Plymouth.v February 2C. ■ IJverytliimj. points to the Egmont Show, which- opened .at Hawera. to-day, being one of the most successful yet held by the ."association./ Despite'the 'fact that farm work'was considerably disorganised .for some weeks during the recent; epidemic, the. entries show an increase of over 100 as compared with last exhibitors., being present from all "parts of TarannftV as well'as from the outside districts;. The-main'increase is in sheep, friesians,.and draught horses. '.The quality of , the -exhibits, is-, also of a.good average;'as-befitting a dairying district. Pedigree milking stock-.figure prominently,'Friesians being strongly in evidence, whilst -Jerseys still, maintain their popularity: . There is also .very strong competition, in Ayrshires, whilst the', show of milking Shorthorns is probably the beet ever , ' penned on the ground. There is not ft i ,big l .yarding of t«t stock, but the quality is. still well 'maintained. Sheep , make . a very good- section, competition ' being particularly keen in the Lincolns, .whilst inthe Border Leiceaters, although- there were only two 'competi.-:. tors, the quality ivns good and the awards were w.ell balanced. Thu.same may be said of the Kbniney Marsh,' notwithstanding the fact that there is only one exhibitor. There is a splendid'exhibit of ■'Southdowns; the ■ average being four sheep in each class. There is not'much : competition ■in pedigree pigs, but in the class'for bacon factory purposes, In which there were ten competitors,- the quality was very high, in -fact, tho best .class" of .its kind penned |at Hawera; The Judge (Mr. S.-K-.
