THE PRODUCE IN STORE
A return prepared by the Department of Imperial Supplies shows that the total amount paid to the producers by the Department to date is <159,351,455. The meat in store on January 31 last for which space had not been allocated in overseas steamers, amounted to 4,724,415 freight carcasses, comprising 3,009,098 carcasses in the North Island, and 1,714,817 carcasses in the South Island. The- cheese in store on Imperial Government account awaiting shipment on February 17, amounted to -it!7 s b39 crates, over dOO.OOO crates being in the North Island. This total included 9219 crates of the 1917-18 eeitson's chee&e. Tho butter in store awaiting shipment on February 14, amounted to 230,073 boxes, of which 201,205 boxes were in tho North Island, and 28,868 cases in , the Smith Island. The number of bales of wool en route to Great Britain is 4i!,577. The number of bales of greasy wool available 1 for shipment on February 22 was 727,782, whils tho number of bales of scoured and elipe wool available for shipment was 99.569. The total payments to date have been as Mow.
