WARM DEBATE AT A HOSPITAL BOARD
QUESTION OF A MATRON'S APPOINTMENT. . By Telegraph—Press, Association. Christchurch, February 26. ■In 1916, Miss M. Thurston, matron of the Ckristchurch Hospital, was granted leave of absonce to enable her to proceed to England to take a position ae matron at Walton-on-Thamos Hospital. At the last meeting of the Hospital-Board it was decided that Miss Thurston, not now being in the position she went Home to fill (she is at present lady superintendent of the All-New Zealand Hospitals in England), be informed that after the termination of her engagement by the Defence Department "the board will .give her six months' leave tf absence on full pay with a view Jo terminating her engagement with the hoard. At to-day's meeting of the board, Mr. H. B. Sorensen moved that the motion be rescinded, which was seconded by Mr. W. Nicholle.- After a. warm debate tho motion was lost by eleven votes to seven.
