ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association ofA'ew Zealand was commenced last evening in the Chamber of Commerce. There were present:—Messrs. P. Berry (secretary). . the chairman (Mr. Selig), in addressing the delegates, expressed satisfaction that the enormous sacrifices of Britain and her allies will culminate in the neai 1 future m an honourable pence and tho utter rout of Prussianism and its barbarous methods, and the hope that tho teace Conference will secure for the world a lasting settlement bused upon right and justice. To the relatives of these deceased the sympathy of the association had ten expressed. He re{erred to the fact that during his visit to England Mr. Fenwick was the recipient of a letter from Lord Stamfordthe Kings private secretary, expressing to members of the association t i ,} cs ty-s thanks for the resolution ot loyalty passed at the previous annual meeting, in the sentiments of which His Majesty heartily concurred. Amongst other things, Mr. Selig referred to the question of future paper supply, the Pre=s Mission to England and the AYestern front, and the World's Press Congress, opening in Sydney on November 11 next. Mr. Fenwick delivered a short address, reporting on the trip of the Press delcfa. Hon to England and the war fronts, for which he was thanked. It was resolved unanimously: "That this in general meeting assembled, having, had under its consideration the public utterances of Mr. Robert Semple, M.P., on the anarchist principles of the Bolshevists arid similar organisations, as reported in the Cliristcliuirch papers, considers it to be its dutv to record its emphatic protest against the support by public, men of doctrines eo mimical to the people of New Zealand and to the •welfare of the Empire." A deputation comprising Messrs S Kirkealdie, C. P. Skerrett, Colonel J. ,L Ivobeirts, and J. M'Lellan, wiaied upon the association in support of the Trentham scholarship Dominion art union. Mr. lurkcaldie explained that the object of the scheme was to provide for the higher education of the children of soldiers aiid sailors, who had served in the war, and to give them the chance to compete with children of better circumstances, and he solicited the support of the newspapers. " A resolution in sympathy with the-re-quest of tho depul ntioi!/ was unanimously agreed to. '
