FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE BOARD
OPERATIONS NOW DECLINING,
The work of the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board is now declining, m consequence of the cessation of recruiting and the discharge of men. A report submitted by the board to the Minister of Defence states that the new applications received during January numbered 100. The grants completed and approved during the month .totalled 972. "Presenting an annual expenditure of X 19,694 17s. 3d. They included 233 additional grants, amounting to ,£3446 3s ; 10d. Warrants issued during the month were 4287 for a total of ,£11,209 4s. 10(1., for the following kinds of help:— <£ S. a. Vortt 4765 U 11 Interest : « \ :::::::::::::::::::: SS! Life insurance 3232 5 5 Fire insurance 1'- 2 " Lodse fees 30 lj> . National Provident Fund -4 8 i ; Confinements and surgical ' expenses r-\ j « Miscellaneous , 13 J. * 1 ' There has been an increase in disbursements for confinements and surgical operations, " The board has been very liberal in the treatment, of these applications; not a single case has been rereport' asserts that the invest; ga< tion of n number of complaints'against the board's administration proved that the charges were groundless.
