UNNATURALISED ALIENS
« DEPRIVED OF THE VOTING FRANCHISE. One of the duties of the returning officers in compiling the rolls for the April elections is to strike off the names of all unnaturalised enemy subjects, which means that such people will not be entitled to vote at the coining elections, either in the case of the licensing poll o"'the various municipal elections. In Wellington there are 54 such persons who, during the period of the war, have had to report themselves periodical y to t ie police. These have been struck off the rolls as ineligible to vote. Naturalised aliens retain the franchise, luiiess—ns in one particular instance in Wellington they have acted in some way contrary to the War Regulations, the which has meant the forfeiture of the privilege.
