The death is reported of Mr. Graham Dick Baird, who owned the Bendemeer Run, situated near Lake Hayes, Arrowtown. The deceased gentleman carried on mixed farming for a number of years, and kept some particularly high-class stock, notably draught horses and Shorthorn and Jersey cattle. He also carried somo 3000 sheep on the run, but it is understood that this number was diminished by one-third as the result of the snows experienced last winter.' The late Mr. Baird was born at Naseby in 1871, and received part of his education at the Otago Boys' High School. He spent two years in a ehart'broker's office in 'Dunedin, and took over Bendemeer in IflOO. He was well known in public life, was a member of llie Arrow Hospital Trust, the Southland Hospital am! Charitable Aid Board, the Frankton Cemetery Trust, and was a churchwarden in the Arrow Anglican Church. He look a keen interest in military matters, and was for some time lieutenant and acting-captain of tho Wakatipu Mounted Rifles. lie was well known as a sportsman, and, in addition to having owned several race-, horses nnd having occupied an official position on the. Arrow and Irnnkton Jockey Clubs, lie met with a good deal of eucccss in the coursing field. In 1900 lie married a daughter of Dr. Douglas, of Queenstown, and ho leaves one son and. two daughters.
