VARIOUS SUGGESTIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Ounodin, February 21. Before the Industries Committee, John Loudon advocated wool scouring on a much larger scale in New Zealand. Ho suggested ail amalgamation of the existing wool scouring plants and the establishment of three modern plants in each island. He suggested that returned soldiers should be encouraged to go in for raising agricultural'and garden seed on the communistic principle. Messrs. Todd, president of the Expansion League, and Waters urged the appointment of a Eoyal Commission to in'inirc into the land tenures of Otago and the depletion and deterioration of Cen : ' tral Otago land through rabbits. The former thought the province should carry two million more sheep. Mr. Edmund Anscombe, architect, advocated the erection of combination factory buildings for the accommodation of small individual manufacturer's; alsol'a system of communism in housing, heat, light, and power, and the - transport- of facilities. * J. ._' Mr. It. Sincock, secretary of Donaghyand Co., drew attention to.the Customs' tariff oh twine and rope, urging a rea-l sonable ■ protective duty. The present system of grading led to the production., of quantity at the expense of quality. The-Bev. Bush King read "a paper..!6i' the "Development of Industries- in- the Home," and the finding of markets by means of local clearing-houses and-sales depots'abroad for home-made '■ articles. Many Bed Cross .workers and women who huve done patriotic and war work wanted to know if an outlet could be found for the continuation of the effort. He suggested making use of the High Commissioner's office in London to further this project. Mr. A, C. Brad, Otago brush factory, urged the appointment of a. Minister of Industries. He complained o'f 'an.. Australian combine dumping-goods in New Zealand. Mr. J. Sligo, representing the Gold Mine Owners' Association, said a statement had been made that gold realise.!, up to Jts 15-. an ounce in London, whereas the standard price was not raised. Here ho considered that the producers should get the benefit of any increase. The board experts should inquire into the mining industry. Mr. W. Neil, president of the Bqot Manufacturers' Association, urged further prohibition to stimulate local industry in the direction of manufacture.
