Asr-wJaUon. Auckland, February 21. The body of an elderly roan gamed I rank Hornden, an old resident of Auckland, was found floating in tho harbour t<wlay. At the inquest evidence was gnen that the deceased whs verv feeble • and short-sighted. A verdict of* "found drowned was returned, there being no .evidence to show how Hornden got into the water.

'Une-yenr-olcl boy, Ernest Brittain, who died at the Hospital on Wwiii'sday while being open ted' upon for yi° '•< , awv&| of tho spleen, Ernest I'Vederlel; Brittain, engineer in tho employ of the Harbour Hoard, residing at 193 Grant Road, and father of tho deceased, said that the latter had been ill for about six or seven months. Ho was placed muter the care of Dr. Gilmer, and improved, but: bccanio ill again, and tho doctor suggested that he should be treated as an out-patioiit at tho Hospital. It then seemed as if he would recover, but a few days ago lie again heenmo ill, and on February 12 was removed to tlio Hospital. He died on February ID. The Conusor Paid that the deceased wn.s .suffering from a disease of the blood, and tlio doctors at the Hospital considered that'the only means of saving his life was by removing the spleen. Tho operation ivas commenced, but the boy expired from shock duo to his weak stato of health. A verdict was returned in accordance with this opinion.
