PUBLIC SERVICE TOURNEY.

After several unavoidable postpone- . ments, the tournament ot tlie bowlers of the l'ublii Service was held , yesterday on the Thorndon and Welling- ( ton greens. The weather was. not very ( favourable in the morning, but luckily ( only rv slight sprinkle of rain was ex- ( perienced at intervals, and no delay was < occasioned thereby. AH the competing teams were present in full force, and many bowling enthusiasts gathered to watch the many exciting contests that took place. The lady friends ot the ulavers ivero, also interested spectators, and on the Thorndon green Mesdames Munro and Ronaldson assisted in providin" an enjoyable afternoon tea, whilst suitable arrangements were also made on tlie Wellington green. As. president ot the tournament Colonel Collins, O.M.b-, 1.5.0., was a host in himself, and the honorary secretary, Mr. W. R. Jourdain, worked hard to make ri success of' the tourney, Mr. G. On the Thorndon Green the Railways played Internal Affairs, and cn the Wellington Green Education played Post and Telegraph. In tho Srst game a good struggle resulted. Or. the seventh hea'd Railways and Internal Affairs had each scored 8. : 'l'he latter team then, drew ahead, and at the end of the fourteenth '< head had scored 18 to their opponents' . I 13. Both teams were playing well. On the seventeenth head, Internal Affairs were lending by 20 to 15, but in a dingf dong go Railways added to their score and evened matters 011 the twentieth head, when both teams were 21.
