Now that the local committee (presided over by tlie Mayor, Mr. J. P. Luke) has succeeded in securing a central site in Bouloott Street as a pitch for the Chautauqua big tent,, the arrangements rfi. co f neofclon ,r 'th the initiation of the Chautauqua movement in Wellington' are being speeded m>, and already a good deal of curiosity has been aroused as to what the Chautauqua movement precisely is. It' may beat bo described. as. culture without pedantry or. preaching.. The Chaufauquan idea is to demonstrate that there is more sclid happiness, more to he got out of life bv having a truer and wider knowledge of how to he happy, That is the real essence ot the Chautauqu&n creed. The Wellington season will be inaugurated in Bouloott Street on Saturday afternoon of next week, and at 8 o'clock that evening the Acting-Prime Minister (Sir James Allen) -will speak at the (Initiation- . ■ Season, tickets may now be obtained at the Bristol (10s. for twelve performances).
