; ♦ A CONFERENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurcli, February 19. A conference of the Industrial Corpor* ations of New Zealand is being held toCl "jl'r. A. W. Jamieson, president, dealt with labour troubles and a remedy. A scheme of co-operation should, he said, be evolved at once, that would appeal to sane employers and employees, and nip in the bud tho irresponsible attempt to introduce a form'of Bolshevism into the Dominion. It was agreed among thinking men that some system of profitsharing must be introduced to awake a spirit of responsibility nnd thought, lhe following subjects might be considered by the industrial associations: (1) Industrial relationship and the creation of opportunities to. bring employers and trade unionists into personal touch, .(_) jrejieral propajjauda rc£flrdiii£ industiiefi, emphasising the need of unions and cm- ■ plovers' organisations; (3) housing and social conditions, to .include considers, Hon of effect of health on the output; U) prevention of unemployment; (a) gathering of daia in local workshops, with a view to making the best ideas the common property of all; ffil general problems of demobilisation, with special ref- < erence to unorganised and unskilled lab°it was decided to appoint a Dominion organiser. The conservation of the timber supplies of New Zealand was urged, and a committee was appointed to frame n remit to the Government. A com-nrelic-nSive scheme for a Department of Industries was outlined by Mr. C. J. Ward, but the adjournment was taken before a decision was reached.
