: Tho PetonD , Borough Council is seeking the co-operation of the" Hutt' Borough Council in the, matter of arranging lor <a deputation to wait upon the General Manager of Railways to urge that workers' tickets should be available on the' 8.4 a.m. train from Petone. Councillor Nowlaud, who brought the matter forward, stated that if this concession were granted, even for the winter months only, it would be a great boon (o the voiing boys and girls whose places of employment (lid not open until 8.30 a.m., but who were forced to travel by the ■7.25 a.m. train, in order to take advantage of the workers' tickets, and. would aiso relieve the overcrowding on the 7.26 a.m. train. .
The gas manager reported to the Petone Borough Council on Monday night that.the position in legard to the coal supply had not improved very much, and unless'it got moro serious than it wae now, he-would not'advocate doing -away. with' street lighting.
Complaints were rife at the Petone Borough Council meeting on Monday rer' gording the , wandering stock nuisance, and it was decided to put on a special ranger for six weeks, at a salary of £S per"week ami hnif poundage fees.
The-Petone Borough Council has agreed to place, a slim .on next ..year's estimates to provide for the erection of a bathing shed at the eastern end of the beach... ' ..■-''.
' Residents at Korokoro are'very .much concerned because -thi'ir sanitary service has been -neglected since .early.-in January. Councillor Jones asked, at' last Monday's meeting.of the -Borough-'Coun-. cil why the service was not being carried 'out.—The Mayor, in reply, stated that he did not know the service was not being carried out, nor did he know the, .reason why. However, he would see that it was attended to right away,
P-TONE DISTKICT HIGH SCHOOL. The usual monthly meeting of the Pe(ono District High School Committee was held last evening. There were present :;.'.jle's3rs. D. M'Kenzie (chairman), Kirk',: .Leavey, ' M'Calluin, . Ashby, Matthews, and Kyle (secretary).
The Education Beard advised that it had , undor consideration n. proposal to establish the woodwork class in the Petone West.ithool.—lt. was'resolved that a reply be sent to the effect that if the woodwoDk class is to be,removed from the Technical School it should be'housed at thp District High School.
Mr. H. Braddock applied for permission to give religious instruction to the school.—Declined. . ■ ■ .- .
