POPULATION
Sir.—lll your issue of February 6, re population, "Jnnius's" remarks are of the right kind. Those who could and will not have children should indeed be.taxed to help those who will have children. Those who have 110 children should be taxed the same as those who through selfishness will not marry. • Those with one child, who are little or 'no asset to the country should be taxed to the extent of 10s. per week, those with only two is. Gd., those with three 55., anil only four 2s. 6d. per week. On the other hand those who can show a family of five and upwards should receive ss. per bead up to fourteen years.
Now, Sir, many readers of your columns may ask, Why tax those with three or four children, as many people think four ar« a crowd? Well,'to the working class four possibly is a crowd, yet qii the other hand how many families can •we see in our midst with .four children ■whose breadwinners are earning well over and who are well up the ladder of success.
Legislation on the above lines would Rive lis population of the right sort. I may add, as an amendment to the aforementioned legislation, chemists who are found guilty of selling drugs detrimental to the normal growth of population should be penalised equally with medical men who have been 'proved guilty of abortion.—T am, etc., MOTHER OF SIX. ' February 12.
