THE GOVERNMENT'S PROGRAMME STRONGLY CRITICISED BY MR. CLYNES By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright London, February 12. , Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr. J. E. Clynes, late Food Controller, strongly criticised the Government's programme. Referring to Ireland, he said the Government must either yield to the accumulation of disorder, which its past policy had created, or must asgemblo sufficient military force, ; The Premier had promised that Labour would have a place in tho Conference. but the pledge had not been honoured.
Mr. Clynes criticised the Government's handling of the industrial situation. Tflo granting of State doles weekly for doing nothing was not a solution. .He demanded information regarding Russia, and the abolition of conscription. The country was entitled to know tho Government's military intentions.
The Premier had. failed to tell the workers what material benefits were forthcoming. Organised labour might make a mistake in pressing for too much in a single stage, but there were exceptions to this rule. "Look at the fortunes made in the past two and a half vears out of coal, fo'od, and beor." (Cheers.), Mr. Clynes said lie opposed tho doctrine of force, but remedial action should be immediate— Aub.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
