ItISE IN FARES AND FREIGHTS. Largo increases in intercolonial freight and passage money were announced by the local manager of the Huddart; .Parker Company, Ltd., yesterday, consequent upon the quarantine restrictions at pre* . sent in force in Australia and New Zealand. The freight Ims been increased by 7s. Gd. per ton,, bringing the rate up to. 85s. Passage money between the Commonwealth and tho Dominion has been increased 425.. in the saloon and 21s. in the stoerace. ■ Single fares to Sydney will now beSaloon, 17s. instead of £7 155.; steerage, ,£5 Us. instead of <G4 10s. The company points out that these mcreases will cover nil quarantine charges for passengers - on'arrival in Australia or New Zealand. The present quarantine regulations require all boats arriving from overseas to undergo 24 hours', quarantine before berthing. Similar regulations are in existence in-Australia, and whilst tho period of isolation for interstate boats is.two days tho length of time, in the case ot overseas shipping is not known. A vessel arriving at Sydney from Melbourne or Brisbane is required to remain in quarantine for two days. i The local manager of the Union Steam Ship Company (Mr. W. A. Kennedy) stated last evening that the company was contemplating tho introduction of similar increases. _____ •
