C Ifiddell, S.M., in connection with the recent bathing fatality in the Hull 'River. The recominendaj lions were:—(l) That it would be ndvisn.We to erect: lint ice boards warning bathers that it is dangerous to bathe in certain parts of (he river. (2) That lifebuoys be placed in convenient places near thp end of the bridge. The matter wns left, in the hands of the chairman to confer with the Mayor of Loweir Unit regarding the precautions to be taken. 'The Upper Hutt Town' Hoard, Hutt. Counlv Council. Lower Hutt liorou.gh Council, and Petone Borough Council wrote agreeing to the board's suggestion of a conference in reference to rales on land acquired from the Crown 'by private owners, and advising the names of the delegates. It was resolved that die conference take place on Wednesday, February 20. Sir. C'.'E. Major drew attention to the erosion of part section. 5+,. Hutt District, n property on which the board levied rates, and nsked that the engineer be instructed to take steps to prevent further encroachment, Kefei-red to the over-1 seer to report at next meeting. The overseer (Sir. Kershaw) reported that the extensions to the groynes at the (op of Gear Island were complete, one stft, and the other 28ft. The cost was. .£SO Gs. Good progress was being made with the dismantling of the old groyne at the pipe bridge, but owing to the nn- [ suitable weather the work was s.low. He : would recommend the-board to erect another groyne jnijt below the bridge. The . groyne above the bridge had done good ' work, but did not carry the -water far 1 enough to clear the pier of the bridge. There were several freshes during the month, On January 17 the river rose Bft. alxive the summer level, and hung about 2ft. over tlic level for over ,i week, making it very unsatisfactory for working. Although this ira the biggest flood this season, he had no damage to report. '. The report was adopted.
PETONE PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION. . The usual monthly meeting of the Petone Progressive Association was held last Tuesday evening, the president, Mr. G. London, being in the chair. The irules of the society, which included an alteration of the name to that-of tho Petone Electors' Association, were submitted. It. wa.ii agreed to visit Ivorokoro for the purpose of explaining to the electors the objects and aims of the association, and it was also decided that at the next meeting the public should bo invited to attend and discuss questions in connection with tho impending election of Petone Borough councillors, and also that an invitation be sent to intending candidates to address the meeting.
