By Telegraph-Press Association
Christchurch, February 12,
The question of whether a home for disabled soldiers and sailors should be erected was dismissed again by the execu. tivo of tho Canterbury Patriotic Fund today. At a,previous meeting; the execu. tin- had referred to the Fund Committee tho question of providing a scheme for utilising a sum of £10,000 which had been specially earmarked by the executive for a Disabled Soldiers and Sailors' .{{ ome - That committee, now reported that it had arrived at the following resolution :-"There is no indication that there will be sufficient permanently and totally disabled men to justify a, fund for establishing such a' home; further, we are of opinion that such men would be much .better eared for in private homes, tho fund, if. necessary, supplementing their pensions. Under these circumstances, the committee recommends that the resolution setting aside the .£IO,OOO be rescinded."
Mr. L. W. Hobbs said that after four and a half years of war the committee could find only two men in its district who would be accommodated in such a home as proposed, and there, was no guarantee that they would slay in it if it did exist.
The. committee's recommendation was adopted.
