COAL MINE OWNERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION
The annual meeting of the New Zealand Coal Mine Owners' Association was held in Wellington yesterday. • The following officers were elected:— President, Sir George Clifford; vice-pre-sident, Mr. G. Joachim; members of "the executive, the Hon. E. W. Alison (formerly president), Messrs. W. Recce, and T. Shailer Weston.
AVhen the election of president was before the meeting it was the' desire of the association that Mr. Alison should continue in the position, but Mr. Alison intimated to the. meeting that circumstances prevented his accepting re-elec-tion. Mr. M'Kellar expressed reirret at Mr._ Alison's retirement, and the following resolution was carried by the meeting: "That this association places on record its extreme regret at the necessity for the retirement of the Hon. E. W. Alison 1 from the presidency of the association, and desires to express its anpreciation of his able and whole-heart-ed services to the industry as a whole."
