. 1 DISPUTES BEFORE THE COURT. By Tolcgraph—Press A«sociation Auckland, February 11. Tho soft goods employees' dispute eamo before the Arbitration Court to-day. The points in dispute are the employment and tho wages of women in special departments, holidays, hours, place of engagement, and preference. Mr.-Martin, for the union, submitted that any female handling or selling certain lines of gcods should bs paid tho same wages as men. The union did not object to women taking their work, but strenuously objected to their doing tho same work as a man for much lower pay. The union asked for tho abolition of lato closing in the interests of the health of tho employees, also for a fortnight's holiday. Tho employers contended that closing a.t 5.30 was impracticable in the suburbs; also that the holiday should not bo made compulsory, as it was a reward for work well done. Ono employer opposed tho idea of paying women at tho eiuno rate as men for tho reason that they were not as efficient. The Court reserved deoipion,
