DOMINION CONCILIATION COUNCIL _— s PROSPECTS OF A SETTLEMENT It has been agreed by the parties to the drivers' dispute that it shall he referred for investigation to a Dominion Conciliation Council, to sit at Auckland on Friday next. This means that the negotiations will be conducted according to the procedure prescribed in the Arbitration Act, and in the event of conciliation proceedings being ineffective the citing party, in this case tlie employers, will take the icase/ nto the Arbitration Court. It is hoped that this will not be necessary, and there is reported to be a good chance of a settlement being made by the Conciliation Council. THE CONCILIATION CONFERENCE. As chairman of the Drivers' Conference the secretary of the union'here has agreed with the employers /'to be a. party to Conciliation Council sittings to deal with the dispute. This sitting has been f.xcd for Friday next before the Conciliation Commissioner. The idea is to have one award for the whole of the Domini.m. Mr. Davis bus communicated with all tlio other branches of the Drivers' Federation in New Zealand, suggesting their approval of this acti&n. Drivers have already been cited by the employers before the Arbitration Court, and this Conciliation Conference, should it be approved by other brunches of the federation, will probably have the effect of concluding the dispute.
