APPLE LANDS OF MOUTERE

Mr. J. R. Brunt, J.P., of Christchurch, arrived in town yesterday from Nelson, .where lie lias spent a very pleasant holiday on.the Moutero Hills apple lands. Mr. Brunt * was much surprised at the immensity of (lie apple industry in (hat district. The. season lias been a 1 good one, and Inrgo quantities of fruit are coming from six and seven-year-old trees. In the Mooters district within a radius of seven miles from the port of Mhpua, no fewer than 5000 acres are planted in commercial apples, and it is anticipated that within a 'period of five years quite three-quarters of a million cases will be sent from the Moutere district. The cool store at Mapau and the evaporating plant at Tnsinan, are well on their way to completion, in time for" the present season's fruit. Koiids are radiating in all directions' from Mnpua. Mr. D. H. Hundle., the company's now manager, has arrived, in the district, and has made a good impression. His-impression of the possibilities of the Moutere district are most satisfactory. Mr. Brunt, who is a keen bowler, was present on the Wellington' Green yesterday. He is president of the Linwood Club. Mr. Brunt is also secretary of the newly-formed Canterbury Justices of the Peace- Association.
