RETIREMENT '01' MR. P. P. WEBB. • Mr. P. Purvis Webb, Deputy-Comptrol-ler and Auditor-General, is'retiring from the Government Service 011 Saturday, at the ago of G5. By that time he will liuve been exactly fifty years in the service. With tlio exception 'of somo eighteen months spent in tho Treasury. Air. Webb has been associated - with tho Audit Department pud' steadily v.-on his way up by ability and eoiiscicntiousncss in the performance of his duties. During his long connection' with the service ho has only onco enjoyed leavo of absence of any length, and tlmt was at a timo when his health broke down, and he was compelled to take a trip to Australia lo stave off a nervoim breakdown. Mr. Webb's health has not bona very satisfactory for eomo time, and .ie has only waited for tho completion of his half century of ha;« ivork lo tnko tho rest he has so well earned. His duties will be assumed ns from Saturday next by Mr. 11. A. Lamb, Chief Audit Inspector. Another change pending in this Department is the retirement of the Comptroller and Auditor-General, Colonel It. ,1. Collins, C.M.G., 1.5.0., who will be succeeded by Colonel Ci. !'■ C. Campbell, Secretary'lo tho Treasury, whoso successor will lie Colonel J. .T, Essou, at present "on loan" to (lie Public Service Commissioner, in connection with the reclassification of tho Public Service. The date of Colonel Collins's ritirement lias not i-oli been fixed. '
