I The Petone group of, the Protestant Political Association , will- hold their I quarterly social rally in tho Orange Hall, I Petone, to-night. Since May 4,1917, and up to the date of the signing of the armistice, United States naval units engaged in 500 encounters with enemy submarines. Fortysix of these' vera definitely successful, ten enemy submarines being sunk, while ninny ,others were badly damaged. Tho number of sinkings was probably very much larger, the figures given being only those, in'which tho sinkings were absolutely established. .
