CONFERENCE IN AUCKLAND .-A SEVEN-DAT TRUCE By Telegraph—Pre33 Association. Auckland, February 9. . .A conference was held on Suturday between representatives of the Employers' Federation whe are not master carters ■and.Mr. Davis, secretary of the Drivers' Union. The former/ put forward a proposition of .£3 Gs. for one-horse drivers for a 52-hour week, and MS 15s. for twohorse men for a afi-hcur week. . Mr. Davis said that there was no posI sible chance of a local settlement on any terms, stating that the matter must be setlk'd nationally. ■ The employers' representatives then undertook to communicate with employers in other parts of the Dominion, witlu a view to a further conference within a day or two, and in the meantime they asked Mr. Davis to request the men not to put into opertitisu their decision to arrive at the stables at S a.m. and leave at 5 p.m. Mr. Davis agreed.to do this, and the union at its meeting this aiorning agreed to suspend action for rev-en days, in the hope of a settlement in the meantime.
