, ■■■! DEMONSTRATION AT PETONE. *[ The Lyall Bay Surf Club members vis- • ■ iled Petbno on Saturday afternoon, and gave an exhibition of life-saving.. Thoro were, fully one thousand people on the beach, and the greatest interest was evinced. The Petone Municipal Band was in attendance, and rendered several selections during the afternoon. The surf olub members gave a demonstration 1 of land drill, under the direction of Acting-Captain R. lleid, after which a, test rcscuo was held. 'i'Jie water in the' harbour was very choppy, and the team, had a strenuous time, as the patient went out fully 750 yds. Tho following took part: Messrs. Pearco (patient), Pintles (support), Dclnuiero (bolt), and Qotloch, Jl'Gillivray, M'Kinley, and A. M'Kinley (supports). The team was accorded a hearty round of applause on reaching the shore. • An alarm rescue was then -carried out very promptly, the team showing that they, 'thoroughly understood their business. Several 'swimming events were then held, and Plattes, _ the Wellington champion Save a very hie display. The Lyall Bay Surf Club' were thanked by the Mayor (Mr. J. W." M'lJwan) and members of tlio St. John Ambulance Brigade. An effort is to be ■ made to form a life-saving club in PetonC" --______. N
