FOOD FOR GERMANY SPA CONFERENCE ARRANGES FOR '' ~ SUPPLY. (Eec. February 9, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, February C. The conference at Spa decided to supply'certain foodstuffs to Germany, notably milk and fats. The 'Germans have agreed to pay in gold, this to be handed to France and Belgium, the accounts sub-sequently-being adjusted between the Allies. Probably enormous purchases of American bacon made by Britain, -which (rill now not be needed, will be diverted to Germany. Measures have also been taken to supply food to Austria as soon as the commission's report is received. Supplies are--now being sent to all the liberated areas. The' Blockade Commission is discussing the restrictions. It desires to give neutrals the greatest freedom, provided absolute guarantees are given against reexportation to Germany. There is a strong feeling that France is against* supplying Gerniany with raw materials. Onethird of France's factories have been ruined by the war) ijnd permitting Germany to secure raw materials will further aggravate France's loss.—Aus.-N.Z. Cab?e Assn. COTTON. AND WOOL NEEDED. (Rec. February 9, 5.5 p.m.) New York, February 7. The Chicago "News's" Bremen correspondent, interviewed the members of the Bremen Cotton Exchange, who said that next to foodstuffs Germany needs cotton and wool. Ninety-fivo per cent, of the cotton mills in Germany are idle. They would employ a million persons if thoy had material—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
