An afternoon at the Papanui competition, a united excursion and visitations to poultry plans arc in store for visitors. • For the 90 groups of pens available for tho next competition at llawkesbury Collego there is a total of 188 applications. Tlic breeds are represented numerically »,s follows .—Open sections (SO croups): White Leghorns 61, Black Orpingtonv 69, Langslmns 18, Silver Wyandottes 9, Plymouth liocks 4, Rhode Island Reds 3. and 1 each of Minorcas, Anconas, and Brown Loghorns, Standard section: White Leghorns 14, Lanshangs 8. Rhode Island Reds 4, and 1 each of Light Sussex, Minorcas, 13 la ok Orpingtons, Silver Wyandottes and Plymouth ltocks. The oommittee will allot tlio peiiß next Friday. With the affiliation of the North and South Island Poultry Association to the Now Zealand Poultry Association, poultrymen in New Zealand now represent 'a lorco 10,000 members strong. "0.W.W." writes:—"l have just been balancing my poultry book for the year e>nd«l 1918. My profit on the year's working is"£27 16a. Bd. I have 50 odd laying •fowls, so it is onite a profitable hobby. I hope to do better next year, as I have 70 young pullets coining oil: tliey should lay about the middle of Starch." This correspoiulent's experience shows what every working man could do on similar lines.
