MAD JUMP THROUGH A WINDOW
MAN. FATALLY INJURED. By Telcisraph.—Press Association. Auckland, February 7. George Ivirkwood, employed in tho Railway Department, was severely injured this morning by jumping from a window, and died later at tho hospital. The man came into town with .his mother to visit Dr. Milsoin, and was seated in the wait-ing-room with his mother when ho suddenly made a rush for the window. His mother made an attempt to stop him, but be evaded her and disappeared out of the window. Tho room is on tho third flood, a distance of about fifty feet from the ground, and in his descont tho man struck tho gutter of tho st.ructuro roofing in the passageway. 'Then his body rebounded and fell a-further dis. tance of some twenty feet to the concreto paving of the light well of the building. Dr. Milsom immediately hurried down and found tho man lying on. the ground ■with blood pouring fr'tiu a severe ■ gash in tho throat, a vein lieiiur severed. Ho was quite conscious and said, "I alii mad, doctor." Tlie injured man had been in camp for some time, and had been suffering from influenza. He had been uu. able to sleep for sonic considerable' time.
