Cable Assn. ; THE BLOCKADETF GERMANY ITS EEM.OV.aL. being canvassed.' . .. (Eec. February 7, 7.15 p.m.) Paris, February 5. Correspondents stato that the question" ; of the blockade of Germany is coming ' increasingly to the fore. There is no l indication that the delegates are inclined ) to trust republican Germany, but, rather . to suspect that under the appearance of ■ humility there ,is the old spirit of un- • scrupulous ambition, combined with a ■ desire for rovenge. It is suggested that i Berlin's, calculated policy is to restore i the industries in order to compete with i France and Belgium, and then to exploit i Russia's troublo. 'On the other hand,' • some (piasters, particularly American, L point that unless, industrial lecorii struction is begun Germany cannot pay ' her reparation debts. The removal , of, • the blockade and the restoration of-in- > dusfry would also prove a bulwark i against the spread of Bolshevism, and en- . able the Allies to. decide quicker what i amount of reparation Germany would be ■ able ta pay. Probably a system of-'li-i censing imports will be introduced — ! Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. WORK OF THE CONFERENCE ADJUSTING THE " TEEEITOEIAL CLAIMS. (Eec. February 8, 1:15 a.m.). Paris, February 5. The Australian Press representative states that President Wilson, Mr. Lloyd George, and Mr, Balfour had a lengthy conference. It' is believed that the question of 'the freedom of the seas was discussed. Sir Robert Borden has been appointed the chief British delegate to> investigate the Greek territorial claims. During the absence of Mr. Lloyd George and President Wilson the council will continue tho conversations oil territorial matters, Mr. Balfour replacing Mr. Lloyd 'George. The< various commissions continue their work, and it is hoped to be able within a fortnight or three weeks to make a Teport adjusting tho territorial claims, while thfe reparation and French territorial claims will not be dealt with until the full council again reassembles. Mr. Lloyd George will probably be absent a fortnight or three •weeks, therefore it is not likely that there will be plenary, sittinas of the conference. The committee of the League of Nations has agreed to the preamble and the. first two articles;' A committee similar to the Greek committee, has been created to examine, tho Czecho-Slovalc claims—Aus.-N.Z.
