CITY ENGINEER TRIP

COUNCIL APPROVES,

In committee after the meeting of the City Council last evening tlie council passed the following resolution:— "(1) That in view of the imminent need for progressive works and improvements m tlie city, and for the expansion of the tramways and electric lighting undertakings, and the existing difficully in obtaining the necessary plant and suppliesalso in view of the recent institution of new methods and machinery for carrying out expeditiously and economically the 'works required the City Engineer be instructed to proceed to Great Britain and America at an early dato to make the necessary inquiries and investigations, and to report to tho council, such report to contain all possiblo information concerning tho council's various activities. (2) That the' Finance Committee bo authorised to make the necessary arrangements to givo effect to (ho resolution."

Tho effect of the above is that Mr. W. 11. Morton will leave New Zealand some time next month, and will be absent for at least six months.
