The Hon. A. 11. Myers left yesterday for Auckland and Rotorua. He will be away from Wellington for about ten days. The appointment of Mr. Hugh Eraser Ayson to be a Judge of the Native Land Court is gazetted. Major E. L. Evatt, of the sth (Wellington) 'Regiment, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal, having completed twenty years service.- ,
Sergeant-Major J. E, M'Cardell Meritorious Medal, who left New Zealand with the Main Body on H.Q.S. Staff, and subsequently served with the hew Zealand Artillery in Egypt and Palestine, has returned to Wellington. Previous to leaving New Zealand Sergeant-Major M'Cardall wns on the staff of the local office of the Phoenix Insurance Company. ' '.
Mr. John Barton, S.M., of Gisborne, has been made a life member of the Wellington Accountant Students Society. ■
Pastor Joseph J. Franklyn, who is under engagement to the New Zealand Alliance for the Prohibition campaign, returned to Wellington by the Kiverma this week, after an absence of ten years in Australia. He is accompanied by nis wife. Pastor Franklyn, who was formerly in charge of the Vivian Street Baptist Church, will leave for No son tomorrow, and will spend a fortnight theie.
Mr. Robert Smyth Martin, whose death from the accidental firing of a snotjmn at Onelmnga on Wednesday was recorded in The Dominion yesterday, was a son of the late Hon. John Martin,.of Wellington, and a brother of Mes=is. William, John, and Arthur Martin, of Maryborough. Mrs. Robert 0 Connor, of Wellington' Terrace, and the late ut. Albert Martin, of Wellington'.
Canon Charles Bodington, of Litchfield, who died recently in England, conducted a mission in New Zealand over 20 years ago, in conjunction with Canon It. &. Mason.
Mr. Donald Reid, sen., of Dunedni, who'was Minister of Public Works m the Stafford Government (1372) and Minister of Lands under. Major Atkinson, (IS7G-77), is stated to be seriously ill. The Rev. B, R. M. Advice has been received that Captain ,T. £. Holmes, of the NX Tunnelling Company, has been awarded the D.&.u. for services rendered while in actingcommand of tho company in erecting stee lwid«es over the Canals du Nord and Iβ l r Escunt, while under fire during the advance i-. September, 1916. The former was the largest bridge ereeted by tho Armv during the war. Captain Holmes is a'eon of Mr. B. W. Holmes, 1.5.0., Engineer-in-Chief, Public Works Department.
With other Reserve officers called \ip for service on the temporary staff m New Zealand during the war, Map A. A.
