UNION COMPANY'S NEW SHIPS. The two large cargo steamers bought in Great Britain for tho Union Company s Pacific Coast-Now Zcalaud-Aiuitralia. trade are vesseli qf 8900 and 8800 tons deadweight roaoecth-cly. They* are to replace tho Wuitoinata and the Wairuna. ' Tho vesseli of 8900 tons deadweight is a new ship and only recently loft tho stocks of the Northumberland Shipbuilding Company. She is a single-screw vessel, fitted with reciprocating engines, and has a sen-going speed of 12 knots per hour. Thu vessel, which is a modern cargo-carrier in 'every respect, will be. named tho Waitemata. The other ■ vcbbcl, which will be known' as tho Wairunn, ,iB tho latest steamer built for the Ilansa Line. She was constructed at Flensburg (Gormauy) in 1914, and was called the. Polcscor., The vessel is 420 ft. in length, with a beam of 66ft. Sin. and a dopth of 29ft; 61n.. Some months ago the.
